1 state down, 9 to go!

We made it to Wisconsin today, so we are now officially pedaling through a new state!  Yesterday was a good ride, we left Minneapolis early after a hearty breakfast graciously provided by Tim and Tara Dougherty…mmm!  Getting out of the cities was fairly easy and we were able to avoid the RNC traffic on our way through St. Paul.  We had one small stretch of not very bike friendly road as we traveled to Hastings, it was pretty rough so we got our first flat tire of the ride- on the green dream.  The other challenge of the day was riding up what felt like a mountain on county road 18…oof!  But we made it and arrived at our destination of Red Wing, MN around 3:45.  The pastor of First Lutheran Church in Red Wing, Pastor Karen, agreed to host us there.  When we met her she told us that her little baby was sick and she didn’t want us to catch anything, so she would put us up in a hotel for the night.  What incredible generosity!  So, we spent the evening in luxury at the Super 8 motel.  It was wonderful, thanks Pastor Karen!

Today we entered Wisconsin and pedaled to Alma, where we stopped at the public library to update this blog.  The ride was BEAUTIFUL as we biked along Lake Pepin, through lots of really cute towns with bluffs and forest all around us.  The one tough part was the hills!  Wow we did a lot of hills today.  But tonight we are being hosted by a great family so we will enjoy some nice r & r.

Til next time,
